We moved!!!!!

And this is our new EMPTY apartment. Nan’s ear is amazing. And it gets a lot of attention. Why is it like that? Well apparently it is super common for sheppards to have their ears migrate to the standing position at different times. Her left ear is slowly starting to go sideways but I don’t know if it will ever go straight up like her right. I love her one ear up, one ear down face. Like that runner? I scored it for $40 buckeroos at the St. Lawrence Antique Market. The only thing I walked away with that day (I had high hopes stupidly)

Blurry but such a funny picture. After being in the apartment for 2 seconds, Nan went to town rolling on the carpet.

My apartment got smudged. I love the idea of cleansing the new digs and it smelled beautiful.  PS – what a good sign – a VW Westfalia parked outside!

Nans being adorable.

A vintage Nan-Remy image. So funny. They adore each other. He is kissing/eating her face here. So cute.  I can’t believe she use to be that small. She is growing so fast – between 35 to 40lbs now for sure. I call her little monster, although she really is still such a good puppy. It is still fun to call her monster though.

So what else is up? Well I am painting this weekend FINALLY, slowly trying to decide on furniture and currently living out of my suitcases for another week. SAD FACE. But it isn’t so bad. Interesting?  Not having a single pot or frying pan in my possession because I decided to store them at my dad’s 2 years ago when I moved to Scotland. Mmmm… Makes for interesting meals.

Inspiration for My New Nest

I am in full fledged nesting mode for my new space. I have secretly been squirreling away ‘inspiration’ images on Pinterest – I felt so sneaky every time I pinned an image to my secret board. Because my home is going to be so small, I have to be incredibly careful about each and every item I bring into my home. I have a few possessions that I already own that I will be bringing (like my mustard coloured Eames chairs) – or at least trying to bring with me – but I have to buy quite a few things. Before I moved to Ireland, I purged much of my furniture so right now, my home is a blank slate for the most part. It is pretty exciting to think about getting new things but in an odd way, it is always incredibly frightening. I am not sure why it makes me anxious but it does. I have become so accustomed to not spending much money on possessions for my home. I use to buy things nilly willy – I want new towels – buy new towels. Now I am over thinking sales, where I will store them, how many do I want…. Blah blah blah. I know one thing for sure, I would like to buy less, go higher quality and try to buy organic as much as possible.

A few other things that I am leaning towards: mostly white, earthy/outdoorsy (I want to feel like I am never far from nature even when I am in the city) and more mid-century, quality wood. Here are some beautiful images I have collected to help me create my new space:

gallery wall Inspiration for My New Nest

Sadly I can’t find the original source for this image. Somewhere it mentioned Design*Sponge but no luck.

What I love about this image: the chair, the industrial naked bulb and the gallery wall. I am considering creating a gallery wall like this in my hallway. I have so much art. Way too much art.

What I love about this image: The mixture of textures, wood & white and the sheepskin. I want lots and lots of sheepskin in my apartment. Not so sure it will be Nanna friendly but…. Oh well. I also love the mixture of colours – whites, woods and greys.

What I love about this image: the desk, chair and gallery wall (again). I would love to use my Eames chair in a similar way but with a smaller desk. I also love the frosty white/grey of the walls. That worn rug? Lovely.

What I love about this image: I love the mixture of nature with photographs, postcards and bits and bobs. This sums up what my random boxes of stuff look like. I think I might want to do something like this. It is so sweet.

What I love about this image: the earthy tones, worn rug and lots and lots of white.

What I love about this image: Everything. The whites, bits of nature, furs and flooring. I won’t be using a bedframe like this due to my space limitations but I love how it looks in this image.

New Digs

So if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, I have alluded to the fact that I am about to get a new place – a very small, quaint studio apartment – but my own place. It took awhile to find something that was just right and dog friendly and in the west end and ‘me’. I have very specific ideas of what I can and cannot live in. Oh did I mention my budget? That was also a limiting factor. Frig rents are CRAZY pants in Toronto. I looked for weeks and weeks and finally a perfectly located studio came onto my radar. I saw it immediately. The landlord likes dogs, but not “small yappy ones” – phew! Although it was filled with someone else’s stuff and apparently is going to be painted, re-carpeted and professionally cleaned – I knew I liked it. The one downside is that I will have to get use to living in a very small space. I think it will actually be a great move for me as I do have a tendency to love too much stuff. I wouldn’t call myself a hoarder but I, well I like stuff. As soon as I handed over the deposit, I started dreaming about how I would decorate the space – maximize what I had and research how to make small spaces not feel so small. I haven’t been able to go back in to do measurements yet, but I plan to this upcoming week so I can start buying furniture and acquiring goods specifically for the space. Because of all my shifting around in the last few years, I really don’t have much ‘stuff’ anymore. Lots was sold, some was dispersed among family and the rest I have purged. Lots and lots of purging going on. My wardrobe? Half of what it was.

I already have a pretty good idea of the look/way that I want to head with the space so I thought I would share it here on the blog. Who knows if it will take this exact direction, but it will at least guide the space.

First up, PAINT. Am so excited to finally be able to fully utilize my Para Paints Blog Crew status!!!

ParaPaint logo New Digs

So you might remember my original post that I did that won me my spot on the Blog Crew Team HERE.

This was the palette I wanted then:

I still really love all of these colours – although I think I might back off a little from the mustard-y colour – and use that sparingly. Was thinking in pillows and throws. Artwork. Little details like that. And I want to infuse a slightly darker, stormy colour rather than the bright blues I had picked – I love this Para colour that the company tweeted about last week:

I even love the name: Beyond the Sea.

I really love the idea of a super white apartment with dark doors – sort of like Daniel and Max did at the Manhattan Nest…

Regarding the type of white that I want to go with in the apartment – it is still sort of a question mark. Like white is white, right? Nope. Not at all. Lots of people have blogged about finding the RIGHT white… Jen at Rambling Renovators wrote a great post about her journey of finding the right white for her basement. Every space is different. I have a few things to consider – my new apartment has TONS of natural light (yeah!!!!) and will have new grey tone carpeting (I know for a fact this will really affect the walls). A white that might look very perfectly white could quickly become very dark on my new walls. So I have to find the perfect white for my space. I asked Jen and Garry at Para for help – apparently the ‘designer white’ is called Crysler Hall (P2118-00). I have gone ahead and ordered it based on the paint chip that was in my fandeck:

I know that this white will be perfect. I love this palette – the greys… oh la la.

I can’t wait to share the transformation of my very small, cozy place with you starting next week!

When did I ever think that I would be able to blog, work full time, chase a puppy and have a social life? I don’t know how mummy blogger’s do it. I would have NO time to do real life stuff if I spent my extra time blogging. It’s insane. I have had a pretty busy week – running around, holiday related, work related… Nan related. Of course. Nan Nan Nan.

This telephone is the telephone my grandmother had at her home on Gore Vale. Beloved telephone that lasted years and years. My sister has it on display in her office… Which I need to snap some pictures of and share with y’all soon.

Speaking of my sister, her and her man went away for a week to Bahamas and I had the fun job of looking after their fur babe, Remy – who is loving and awesome but challenging. We had a nutty week – involving constant dog battles, learning to use Halti’s, a trip to the vet’s and morning group love nests in the bed. I became weak, very weak. And let them both on the bed. It was hilarious. Remy would try to snuggle me, Nan would be quietly and very gingerly trying to bite his limbs…..

I took a snapshot of this colour that the Para Paints people snapped at the House and Home event a few weeks ago. I love it. Am really loving those dark grays and blues right now.

Oh this chair. This awesome awesome free chair from last year. It has been waiting patiently for a home. Real home. I have lived in temporary digs since basically the day I moved back from Belfast. Shocking huh? I went from having a whole house of my own to a bedroom. That’s it. Hard to want to decorate something that you know is only going to be for a short time as well. I love this chair and can’t wait to make her shine in my own place!

I love this girl. She lives at Queen West & Dovercourt.

I went to City of Craft – one of my favourite craft fairs – and snagged lots of sweet treats for myself (GAH WHY DOES THAT ALWAYS HAPPEN!?!?!) and zero for friends and family. Wondering what I got? A new Falconwright small clutch, a Doublenaut misprint ($5!) and a great tshirt (super soft and cozy) and a Good Night, Day headband which I have been lusting after for months.

My sister had a holiday party. It was fun. We danced a lot – into the night…. Then I went home. I am too old for this shit.

Lots of cutie decorations were everywhere. I had to capture them. Obviously. IG-ed instantly.

Everyone is probably thinking I have abandoned Sheamie and never see her anymore. Not true. But it is true that she lives at my mom’s. She is such a sweet babe. I see her two days a week and we cuddle lots. I want to bring her downtown but my roommate thought two dogs in one apartment might be too much….and it would likely be a little stressful for wee Sheam. She likes doing lots of things but too many changes can be stressful for her. I am going to start bringing her downtown in the New Year again. Her and Nan are great together – she babysits Nan for me every Monday – and Nan comes back very mature and calm.

See?

I am so lucky to have adopted such a stellar dog. I think this pretty much everyday. It is shocking how smooth things have been. That said, Nan has been extra silly lately – she is getting bigger, can now reach things she couldn’t before and is testing boundaries. It doesn’t bug me that much but it does grate on your patience once in awhile. She learns quickly and is incredibly food motivated which helps for training. She is my constant companion. I can’t imagine my life without her.
