A Road Trip. But For Real This Time

I have been dropping loads of hints about my love of road trips, camping, adventures… Well, I can finally reveal that I have set off on a super free-spirited trip to the West Coast of Canada! Me, myself and I! I have wanted to get out there for ages, I have lots of dear old friends living there, and I decided this was the summer to do it.

The planning took months, and didn’t exactly turn out as I had hoped/anticipated. I had been viewing and researching VW Westfalias (camper vans) for months and months. After I saved my pennies, I had narrowed it down, but ultimately none of the VWs worked out. It was really sad when this one got a big F on its inspection:

It was crushing. But I had to move on. Which I did. To something slightly more reliable but much more modern and macho (which I’m not so sure about):

I think my family feels a hell of a lot better knowing I am driving this heffer out there and not an ’82 diesel Westfalia! Ahhhh I am still sad about that.

But the more important thing is my actual trip. I can’t wait to bear-hug my old friends to death (I’m terrified of bears on this trip FYI), have lots of campfires, and just explore Alberta and BC (where I shall be for the rest of the summer).

So as a warning: I have written some homey/decor type posts, but for the rest of the summer, most posts will be about my trip and the adventures I have along the way. I’ll be taking thousands of pictures, basking in nature, and occasionally posting about home related stuff!

    It’s too bad the westfalia probably drove on diesel which means you could have used vegetable oil to run that sucker! Imagine driving all the way to the west coast for free! We have driven to Florida several times now in our Jetta diesel on veggie oil for free. Hope you have a great trip and enjoy the west oh and of course beautiful northern Ontario my stomping ground!!

    I love the vw ….. i was in one of those when i was in high school going to a cottage trip with a bunch of friends….it was a bit scary to drive to be quite honest b/c its so old ……but so happy you posted that picture up…such a blast from the past LOL

    Ah… I love it! Are you doing this all by yourself? I hope you enjoy every minute of it! And share as much of it as possible. I’ve gone east, but only as far as Edmonton out west and then, I flew, so I feel like I’ve seen precious little of the expanse that is Canada.
