The more of yourself that you integrate into the art that you hang in your home, the more likely you are to be satisfied with it in the long run. We have no scientific, fancy shmancy research to back that claim up but it just makes sense. Overtime, big box store art just makes its way into your storage space where you eventually decide to give it to a charity shop, put it in a garage store or throw it out (please don’t ever throw it out! Your junk is another persons score!).
This is nicely illustrated by a family members of mine integrating this beautiful pictures of Algonquin Park into their home. Framed by Walmart dark wood frames, they look lovely don’t they?

Here are some examples of art that we have had in our own home that was a little more meaningful for us:
Bought this personalized print from Etsy here as a small housewarming gift for B & I.
Back when we lived in Toronto, I had made a gallery wall in our long bowling-ish hallway (it was a very odd awkward space). I wanted to use old pictures of Toronto to show our neighbourhood and other meaningful places in a different light, here were some of my favourites:
A hunt! With Beagles! From 1912 on Bathurst Street north of St Clair – amazing huh?
All pictures from the City of Toronto Archive.

HA!!! Love the so called ‘slum kids’
This one actually came to Ireland with us – I adore it. So much. Trinity Bellwoods in 1913.
