Wondrous Wednesday – DIY Gems

Every few days or so we stumble across a pretty awesome, brag worthy DIY gem on other blogs. Without a thought, we comment, think “Wow that’s wonderful” and keep reading… Then we had a light bulb moment (more like a sudden flash, brain moves slowly these days) – we should really share all these wonderful projects with the readers. Again, we do all the footwork, you get all the inspiration. Easy enough!

Some of our favourite DIY projects thus far:

1. Pretty impressive Ikea Desk ‘hack’ from Me, you and a wiener.

Pretty great huh? Especially because it started life as this:

2. Cute side table with suitcase by Songbird is Nesting.

Fun idea that would be pretty easy to pull together the materials! Here is how it started:

Suitcases and little side tables like that pop up in thrift and charity shops all the time! Head here to see how Songbird did this little DIY project.

3. Customizing an inexpensive bookcase by one of our personal favs, Young House Love. Tis a simple project, but sometimes simple DIY adventures are the best kind!

Not overly complicated but adds a nice personal touch to a seemly personality-less Ikea Billy Bookcase (if we see another one of these on craigslist…)

4. A jazzed up steel file cabinet – wallpaper project by Casey who was featured on Design*Sponge. Really like this one as it could be easily adapted for very different styles.

Great huh? Can you even believe that it is just one of those industrial, heavy as hell that everyone has possessed at some stage in their lives????

5. Painted branch centerpiece – a tangent from the rest but we still heart it – from Rachel Ray via Apartment Therapy.

We envision this being re-invented depending on your mood and season – spraypaint it different colours, place different nature inspired accessories on it (birds, Easter eggs, flowers, leaves)… The opinions are endless and darn cheap! Head here for the how to.

6. Kiddie chalkboard table – yet another Ikea hack! From the heavenly team at Apartment Therapy.
