Loving: Happy Handmade Home

This past weekend I 'babysat' my sister and her fiance's dog Remy. When I got settled in, I found that my sister had a copy of Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman's (of A Beautiful Mess) Happy Handmade Home book! I shouldn't be surprised as I know my sister loves their blog and in fact her own home has a lot of the same design aesthetic as A Beautiful Mess. I loved flipping through their well put together book and thought I would share my favourite images and projects from it. Right off the bat they presented this awesome image of a kitchen with the exposed cupboards painted a dark turquoise/jade. I love it and have already been thinking about doing this in my new apartment. Half of my cupboards are open concept like this and I feel like they could use a lift... Something like this or wallpaper. I love all the bright pops ...

Nothing happens as quickly as I would like

There was a reason I could never become a teacher. I have don't much patience. It's odd. I can be  incredibly patient when I am working with children but there it is definitely something I struggle with in other parts of my life. I want things to happen quickly and efficiently. Take moving. I prepared quickly. Got my shit together and moved. I was prepared and ready to rock. I wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible. My fella? Not so much. He had a few nights after work to get working... And well.... He just works slower than I do. I was commiserating with my sister - why was I like that? Jeez, I just need to slow down. Her response? It is our family style. We like to do things quickly and get them over with. Why drag them on and on? Let's just get in ...

A New Nest

It is all coming together incredibly quickly. I can't believe I happened to see a little sign in my local pet store where I buy Nan's food a few weeks ago to now moving into my big new apartment! In my hood! With laundry! And new appliances! And lots of storage space! And an enclosed backyard! And a garage! It seems unbelievable in Toronto's rental market that this could happen. I am absolutely positively over the moon and am bursting with ideas for Garden (my name for it). Of course, when I have viewed the apartment, I snapped horrible Iphone pictures quickly and am now deeply regretting it as I don't want to wait. I want to share the space NOW. So whatever, caution to the wind, I am showing y'all the new digs. Please mind that they are horrible pictures and I will be taking better ones this weekend. Above. ...

Energy And News.

Not to get all new age spiritual and reference mercury's location this astrological year but, life has been good lately. Damn good. I am not going to delve into what I believe or don't believe , but I definitely belong to the camp of energy belief. Positive and negative energies have a strong influence on how we perceive things, how we feel about ourselves and others and in some ways, the decisions we make. As individuals, we make decisions to surround ourselves with positive or negative energy (people, places, jobs, what you decide to dwell on, day to day tasks etc). Big and small, these things add up. If you have a person in your life who is draining your positive energy, run. If work is wearing you down, take a break or think about changing gears. Living life more purposefully is hard work but totally pays off.  Even very ...

Summer DIY’s

Not sure if everyone has clued into it yet, but I have summers off. Not only do I have one of the best job's in the world, I also have amazing (by Northern American standards) holidays. I spent most of July running errands, getting to my pre-crastination list and doing things I had wanted to do for ages. And beyond that, camping, races to get to (Nan and I lead busy lives as full time cheerleaders) and friends weddings. Now that all that is winding down, I have a few do it yourself projects I have been mulling over. Ever since I did the blog make over (I am not sure what else to call it), I have a new enthusiasm for blogging. It may also be because I have the time. I have struggled to find a life/work/blog balance for the last 1.5-2 years. Something had to give I ...
